Laboratory tests have been carried out in order to investigate on the possible adaptative role of PGI-1 locus in Gammarus insensibilis. The test consisted in keeping groups of 100 adult individuals at the constant temperature of 27°C for 36 hours. In each assay, after that time, the mortality was of about 50%. The electrophoretic screening shows a differential survivorship of PGI genotypes with a significant advantage of the hétérozygote genotypes compared with the homozygotes ones.
