Bertold Franciszek Lysik (April 7, 1925 - May 3, 2022) was a member of the Silesian youth who survived the Second World War. After graduating from high school in 1948, he pursued a degree in mathematics at the University of Wroclaw, which he completed in 1952. His doctoral thesis, defended in 1960, focused on the mathematical aspects of the theory of thin shells. In 1969, he was awarded his habilitation at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Wroclaw University of Technology (Politechnika Wrocławska) in mechanics of continuums. From 1990, he held the position of associate professor at WUT. His immense contribution to the development of modern methods of constructing mathematical models and related algorithms is noteworthy. As a specialist in the theory of elasticity, mechanics of continuums, dynamics and dimensional analysis, he demonstrated a new approach to the application of mathematics in engineering science.
