The correct formulation of the boundary conditions for the St. Venant system for simulating closed and open basins is investigated. A modification of the St. Venant system close to the boundary is made to ensure stability of the computational process. Numerical formulas and pictures of the currents in the Gulf of Finland and Lake Onega are given.
