The reflection and transmission of $SH$-waves by an elastic layer is considered in exact numerical simulations by contour integration in the complex slowness plain. Body waves, channel waves, head waves, tunnelling body waves is considered in the time and frequency domains. Wave features connected with propagation inside the layer disappear when the thickness of the layer is less than a wave length. The spectral representation of these wave features has a resonance character. The maximum in the spectrum is shifted to higher frequencies as the horizontal distance is increased, so the attenuation of these waves with distance is strongly dependent on the spectrum of the source-receiver system.
