Application of the immersed boundary method for solving the Navier–Stokes
equations and its implementation are considered. The following problems are
solved numerically: flow around a circular cylinder, flow over a backward
facing step at a channel inlet, flow around two circular cylinders in tandem,
and three-dimensional flow around a stationary sphere. The results thus
obtained are compared with those obtained using curvilinear grids.
Keywords:
Navier–Stokes equations; immersed boundary; modeling; immersed boundary method; ghost-cell method.
