Dynamics of Phase-Modulated Few-Cycle Pulse Compression

The theory of short optical pulse compression with quadratic phase modulation in dispersive media is elaborated. Results of numerical simulation of the equation for a light wave field are presented. The conditions whereby the pulse is compressed up to one optical period are discussed. The optimum phase modulation index is determined.
