The Subset Theorem in Dimension Theory and Open Maps Raising Dimension

A method of extension of some results concerning compacta to paracompacta is presented. It makes it possible, in particular, to prove that every non-0-dimensional paracompactum is an image of a 1-dimensional one under an open and perfect map with arcwise connected or 0-dimensional fibers.
