Relativistic string with fixed end points

The model of a relativistic string with fixed end points is considered. The model is quantized in the transverse gauge. The expectation value of the total energy of the string in a definite state is interpreted as a static interaction potential between quarks in the single-string approximation. A quantum theory is constructed for a restricted class of motions, and the spectrum of the total energy of the string is obtained in this sector.
