Interaction between pions are nuclei is treated by means of field-theoretic methods. General expressions for the amplitudes of elastic scattering, inelastic scattering and absorption are obtained. As an example, the approximate treatment of the inelastia scattering of pions near the $\Delta_{33}$ resonance is given.
