The excluded-volume model formulated as a monomer-dimer problem is considered. If only nearest neighbors interact, there is no phase transition in the system. For the case when an additional long-range interaction is present, an exact expression is obtained for the partition function of the model and it is shown that the introduction of the interaction does not lead to the occurrence of a phase transition.
