The paper is a continuation of [6], in which it was shown that the combined weak and electromagnetic interaction of leptons with intermediate bosons is stable against the spontaneous formation of a photon mass (stable in the sense that the formation of mass is energetically disadvantageous). In the present paper a study is made of the stability of originally masstess lepton fields, and it is shown that the neutrino is stable, whereas charged leptons are unstable against the spontaneous formation of mass. The origin of the electron-muon mass difference is also discussed.
