The work shows how to create a model for fatigue damage in polycrystalline material under controlled stress by combining fracture mechanics and damage mechanics. The damage is defined as the product of the longest column and the stored deformation (where both quantities are taken with an exponent). The transition from a short cleft to a long one is defined using El Haddad's intensity stress factor for initial clefts, while the break is defined using the behavior of the longest cleft.
