We give a bijection which explains the relation between MacMahon's inversion statistic for multiset permutations and Goulden and Jackson's inversion statistic for permutations with increasing blocks. This provides a simple explanation for MacMahon's combinatorial interpretation of the q-multinomial coefficient. The following versions are available:
