When one considers problems of enumeration on (locally finite) partially ordered sets, then the corresponding incidence algebra is frequently a very useful algebraic tool. The present paper further develops this idea of Doubilet, Rota and Stanley to investigate ordered structures with the help of appropriate generating functions.
