Paolo Ruffini, internationally famous for his results in mathematics, in particular for the theorem on the insolubility by radicals of algebraic equations of degree greater than 4, was also a physician and epistemologist. He had a long career as an academic professor of mathematics at the University of Modena, where, from 1814, he became rector and also in charge of medical teachings. He was a member of several Academies, as the National Napoleonic Institute and the Italian Society of Sciences, of which he was elected president. Valentano (Viterbo), his birthplace, and the town of Modena, where he spent all his life – except for the first few years – remember him adequately and on May 10, 2022, on the occasion of the bicentenary of his death, Poste Italiane (the Italian postal service) has issued a celebrative stamp.
