The escape behavior and the decrement of motor activity, depending on the intensity of the electric shock, have been studied in the Warner cage by using mice belonging to the strains Balb/c and C57 BL/6J. The results obtained with different voltages show how, while the spontaneous motor activity is equally impaired in the two strains, the escape behavior is more sensitive to the stimulating effect of the electric shock in the C57 mice. The results are discussed on the basis of the Species Specific Defense Reaction.
