The ultrastructural characteristics of the skin of Triturus cristatus Laur. are described. The mucopolysaccaridic content in the cytoplasmic granules, present in all epidermal cells, was analyzed by means of “staining” with PTA. The presence of tyrosinase activity was evidenced by Dopa incubation in the same kind of cells; the intensity of the reaction, however, is different in the different cells and in the structures where this reaction appears.
