The results of hydrographic measurements and of investigations in the organic productivity in the Mar Grande and Mar Piccolo of Taranto, accomplished in the period 1962-65 are here related. The mean rate of primary productivity (correct of dark fixation) is in the Mar Grande 170 gm C/m2; net production per year: 3.7 x 103 tons carbon. In the Mar Piccolo 171 (1st Seno) and 134 gm C/m2 (2nd Seno, the inner part); net production per year: 1.9 x 103 tons.
