By histochemical technique, using acetylthiocholine as a substrate, a study has been made of the presence and the localization of cholinesterases in embryonic and larval development of the fishes Hippocampus guttulatus and Betta splendens. It was seen that the enzyme appears at a rather late stage of development (at 6-8 somites) and is localized exclusively and permanently in the muscular territory.
