A simple derivation of the vectorial equilibrium equations of a shell is given, and the expression of internal virtual work, according to Kirchhoff assumptions only. Exact relations (without approximation or assumption on the thickness of the shell) are also established between the global stress measures of a shell (active and constrained) and the stress components, suitably defined.
