Comparative Observations on the Yolk Proteins in some Amphibia. - The yolk globules of all Amphibia show at the electron microscope an identical crystalline structure. Therefore the serological properties of yolk proteins of several amphibians, both Anura and Urodela, have been analyzed. The immunological distances between some different genera (i.e., Triturus, Bufo and Rana) appear to be very great, while Xenopus has an intermediate position between other Anura and Urodela. This peculiar condition is probably related to the phylogenetic position of Pipidae. On the other hand, at the examination of different species of the same genus, we have not observed any serological differences between yolk proteins of both Bufo species (B. bufo and B. viridis) and Triturus species (T. cristatus and T. alpestris), while Rana esculenta e Rana temporaria have probably some different immunological determinants.
