The calculation of a band structure of three-dimensional metallic photonic crystals using the time-dependent Maxwell equations

Using the numerical solution of the time-dependent Maxwell equations the band structure of three-dimensional metallic photonic crystal, periodical array of logpiles was analyzed. For the dependence of dielectric susceptibility on frequency the Drude–Lorentz approximation was used. On the boundaries of the elementary cell the quasi-periodical boundary conditions were used. The dependence of the band structure on geometrical parameters of the photonic lattice – distance between the log piles, their length and width was studied. It was found that the full width of the infrared photonic band gap is almost inversely proportional to all geometrical parameters.
