The analysis and the survey of mathematical models of the R rivalry are presented. The main attention is paid to the rivalry in the races form, namely: the patent races at the inter-firm and the international inter-firm levels for commercial R the military technology races at the interstate level for military R The classification of the models under consideration is given; the real problems are studied with their help and the applied mathematical tools are characterized; obtained conclusions, their empirical validity and suitableness for decision making are discussed too.
