In the search for ideally embedded space-times we present an optimal inequality for a m-dimensional
Riemannian or Lorentzian manifold embedded as a hypersurface in a (m+1)-dimensional Ricci flat space. We give some examples and discuss its applications in higher-dimensional
physics.
