With the use of geometric constraints, parametric and variational solid modeling systems enable designers to incorporate relationships between geometric entities into the geometric model and thereby control potential changes in geometry. The objective of developing these constraints or relations is to capture the intent of the designer and restrict changes that may be made by other users of the model. This paper will describe methods and strategies for constraining geometric models and show how these models capture design intent.
