It has been shown that the degree of structural disorder for atmospheric glassy polymers is of a thermal fluctuation nature. The value of the fluctuation free volume is a quantitative measure of the degree of this disorder for atmospheric polymers. Disorder in common systems does not necessarily have a thermal fluctuation nature, but it is its structural component that determines the mechanical behavior of the polymer.
