This paper suggests a different interpretation of the uncommon writing style one encounters in reading Desargues’ Brouillon Projet. Desargues’ unusual use of language is primarily due to the need he had to create a new gestalt frame of reference with which one could reconsider classical geometrical objects, using this as a starting point for the creation of a new geometrical context which included actual infinity and new objects with some of their parts extended to infinity. We attempt to show how Desargues’ use of dynamic metaphorical language moves visual thought in the production of new concepts, such as involution, and new theorems.
