L'article présente la copie rendue par le mathématicien Évariste Galois à l'épreuve de mathématiques du concours d'admission à l'École préparatoire en 1829. La confrontation de ce document méconnu, témoignage des années d'apprentissage du mathématicien Galois, aux copies des autres candidats de 1829 et aux archives relatives au concours d'admission pour la période 1826-1830 permet de décrypter les pratiques concrètes d'enseignement des mathématiques et les capacités développées par les étudiants au début du xixe siècle. Cette analyse ouvre ainsi des pistes quant au lien entre la formation scolaire et le savoir-faire savant.
The article presents and analyses Évariste Galois's solution of the problems set at the 1829 entrance competition for the Paris École préparatoire. Comparing this document with the papers of the other candidates in 1829 and with the archives of this competitive exam from 1826 to 1830 reveals much about the training that Galois received as a mathematician, and sheds light on the nature and limits of the students' mathematical capabilities at the beginning of the 19th century in France. The article thus contributes to the understanding of the relation between mathematical training and the making of mathematical knowledge.
