Evolution stages of some monkey and ape taxons.

The aim of this work is to present taxons which link various species and genera as morphological stages in the evolution of primates. The research material consists of 115 skulls of monkeys and apes. Their variability in neurocranium and splanchnocranium ratios can be characterized by Morant and Sergi’s index and by direct measurements that is formed of. The analysis of results allows the following conclusions. Determining taxon concerning PAPIO (baboons) shows that sex dimorphism exceeds differences between its genus. In the PAN taxon (chimpanzees) there are no significant differences concerning genus and sex. By studying taxonomic differences between the taxons it can be stated that the evolutionary radiation of apes started from initial form corresponding to contemporary chimpanzee. Gibbons (HYLOBATES) differ equally from both baboons and apes, and future evolution of baboons will run in the orangutan (PONGO) direction. .The analysis of skull development rate and rhythm of the primates studied indicates that young individuals are relatively similar to each other irrespective of taxonomic differences. The taxonomic differentiation can be noticed only in the period of morphological stabilization
