Subdirect sums and differences for some classes of matrices

The classes of accretive, dissipative, and accretive-dissipative matrices are shown to be closed with respect to taking a sub-direct sum, while the classes of $\mathrm{SQD}$ and $\mathrm{BG}$ matrices are closed with respect to taking a sub-direct difference. Computational consequences of these facts are discussed.
