The paper presents principles of architecture and implementation of MathCloud, a Web-based service-oriented scientific environment. The main goals of MathCloud are to provide a unified access to problem solving computing services and to enable integration of these services in the context of scientific applications. The proposed approach assigns primary importance to the simplification of service development, ease of access to services and use of open technologies.
