Algebraic structures on the space of continuous maps

We study properties of the family $\lambda$ at which the set $C(X,Y)$ of all continuous mappings from a Tychonoff space $X$ into a metrizable topological vector space $Y$ equipped with the (weak) set-open topology is a topological group.
