Residual stresses and fatigue resistance of cylindrical volute springs

Residual stresses are determined, fatigue tests of volute springs are conducted. It is demonstrated, that hardening generates the increase of fatigue resistance, moreover, fatigue limit excess depends on the level of compressive residual stresses in spring super facial layer.
