Mathematical modeling of the high-frequency electromagnetic field in waveguiding structures

In solving the 3D electromagnetic problems with the help of the vector finite element method the important issue is how to construct appropriate basis functions. A special basis is used for numerical simulation of the 3D electromagnetic field which enforce tangential continuity of the electric ${\vec{\mathbf{E}}}$ between adjacent elements. Normal component is allowed to be discontinuous. The analysis of different sets of higher order basis functions is presented in the current paper.
