Displacement of a viscous fluid from a circular Hele-Shaw cell with a sink

It is found that the viscous fingering in an annular Hele-Shaw cell with a sink is unstable in spite of the radial geometry of displacement. A linear analysis shows the absolute instability of the radial front of displacement. The appearance of isolated fingers are clearly observed in numerical simulations.
