An epizode of scientific researches of L. Euler during his stay in St. Petersburg in 1730ties is presented. In those years, Euler worked on problems of shipbuilding by order of the Petersburg Academy of sciences. The two-volume treatise “Naval science” appeared as a result. Cooperation of M. V. Lomonosov and L. Euler in this problem is also reported, and for the first time an analysis of a part of Euler's correspondence with western scientists concerning the vessel stability theory is given.
