Determination of guided modes in multilayer dielectric waveguides

An efficient numerical method is proposed to determine the guided modes in multilayer waveguides. The method is of high computational efficiency due to the determination of a good initial approximation at the first stage of computations. Some numerical results are discussed for several guiding structures and are compared with data obtained by other authors.
