The absorption spectrum of $\text{Cr}^{3+}$ ions in $\text{Al}_2\text{O}_3$ in the range from 691 to 697 nm was measured using biphoton light generated by nondegenerate spontaneous parametric down-conversion of He-Cd laser radiation (325 nm) in $\text{LiIO}_3$.
