The paper reports on possibility of applying impure crystals in optical phase memory and optical coherent transient devices. Experimental arrangement of the photon echo processor is described. It is found that crystals doped with thulium ions are suitable as a media. The paper touches upon pulsed echo spectrometer used for investigation of the transmission spectra of the samples and carrying on initial experiments on long-lived stimulated photon echo. Spectral parameters of investigated impure crystals are presented.
