The influence of $\gamma$-radiation on the processes of gelation in the high pressure polyethylene has been investigated. It has been shown, that along with the decrease of the thickness of the radiated species and hence radiation intensity, the threshold of gelation and difference between velocities of decomposition and recombination of macromolecules decrease.
