By the method of turbidimetry the influence of $\gamma$-radiation on the molecular mass distribution of high pressure polyethylene has been investigated. It has been shown that in the polymer under the influence of $\gamma$-radiation degradation and bonding processes take place simultaneously, which are more expressed for thin samples.
