On the distribution of the maximum frequency of a multinomial distribution

For testing the hupothesis that all the probabilities of a multinomial distribution are equal, a test based on the maximum frequency is considered. Upper and lower bounds for the significance level of the test are derived. The corresponding power function is compared with that of a chi-square type test.
