Variational method of calculating the partition functions of the lattice-gas and Ising models

An expression including variational parameter is obtained for the grand statistical sum of the lattice gas and, consequently, for the statistical sum of the Ising model as well. It is shown that this expression gives the lower bound of the exact statistical sum for any values of the variational parameter. Testing demonstrated the high precision of the calculation of the statistical sum by the method obtained.
