A study is made of stationary localized states of cyclic molecular chains described, depending on the nature of the exciton-phonon interaction, by different discrete modifications of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Greatest lower bounds are obtained for the value of the interaction parameter at which localization occurs. The properties of localized states are investigated by the variational method. Barrier heights are determined for soliton transition from site to site in the chain.
