Vacuum polarization by magnetic flux: The Aharonov--Bohm effect

A magnetic field confined to a tube polarizes the quantum-field vacuum in the region
outside the tube by the Aharonov–Bohm effect. The vacuum energy density and the
current of scalar and spinor fields are calculated in the presence of a straight infinitely
long tube.
