Structure of the mass operator in finite Fermi systems

The field methods of many-body theory are used to consider the structure of the mass operator in finite Fermi systems. It is shown to have a pole dependence on the energy. Various approximate methods of determining it are discussed. The general properties of the quasiparticle spectrum are investigated on the basis of the obtained form of the mass operator.
