On the energy of gravitational waves in Einstein's theory of gravitation

Examples of exact wave solutions of Einstein's equations show that the standard, generally adopted formulation of the energy-momentum problem using pseudotensors gives either the value zero or a value of variable sign for the energy of gravitational waves. It is shown that if in Einstein's theory one goes rigorously to the weak-field limit the theory gives an unambiguous null result for weak gravitational waves. The well-known non-null result is due to an incorrect transition to the weak-field approximation in Einstein's theory.
