Semiclassical representation of the density matrix of the electromagnetic field

A study is made of the possibility of describing the statistical characteristics of a strong electromagnetic field interacting with a quantum medium by the density matrix method. An equation is found for the density matrix which enables one to determine the change in the field statistics from the well-known solutions of the semiclassical nonlinear equations of Maxwell.
