Adiabatic theorem in quantum field theory

A definition Is given of the renormalized $S$-matrix in quantum field theory. This is based on a passage to the limit from the adiabatic $S$-matrix tn a finite volume. It is shown that under certain conditions the definition is equivalent to the ordinary definition.
