Phenomenological Lagrangians in~quantum field theory

It is shown that in a theory of quantized fields one can always construct an effective interaction
which gives the exact scatt.ering amplitude at all energies in the tree approximation
(i.e., in the lowest order of perturbation theory). The transition to a local interaction is
discussed. It is shown that no local effective interaction exists for massive fields.
